Introduction

On August 2nd, Broadcom VMware informed Network Development Group that it has terminated the VMware IT Academy and Academic Software License programs. We recognize this may be difficult information to receive given your organization may schedule classes months or even a year in advance.

Important information: We have been told that the last day to renew VMware software is August 15, 2024 and that academic institutions will have until that date to work with D2L to be eligible to use program resources (software and content) for the next 365 days after your last renewal.

We recognize that this will be difficult for any academic institution that utilizes VMware academic programs for content or software to train learners, grant projects, and research projects. Unfortunately, NDG has no ability to influence this decision by Broadcom VMware.

NDG Portal Timeline

Important: In order to access VMware IT Academy materials, you MUST have a current D2L Brightspace subscription with the VMware IT Academy. You may be cut off sooner than the dates listed if your access to D2L and the VMware IT Academy has expired. The last day to renew access is August 15, 2024, and after your renewal you will have 365 days of access to VMware IT Academy materials. Instructors and administrators are STRONGLY encouraged to reach out to Brightspace or NDG with ANY questions they may have regarding eligibility and status of their account.

NO RENEWALS CAN BE MADE TO YOUR D2L BRIGHTSPACE ACADEMY ACCESS AFTER AUGUST 15, 2024.

August 15, 2024 - Last day to renew VMware IT Academy access with D2L Brightspace.

November 1, 2024 - Last day to enroll in VMware DCV-CTS labs.

January 1, 2025 - Last day to purchase access codes to VMware IT Academy labs. Last day to create new instructor-led classes within the NDG Portal using VMware IT Academy materials.

February 15, 2025 - Last day to enroll or use access codes to VMware ICM 8 and OSS 8 labs. Last day for students to purchase access directly to VMware IT Academy materials.

August 15, 2025 - All NDG Portal services for VMware IT Academy labs will end, regardless of any time remaining on an access code or purchases. VMware IT Academy labs will be completely removed from NDG services at this time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Will this affect non-VMware labs, such as the Palo Alto Networks Cybersecurity Academy, in any way?
A. No, non-VMware labs are unaffected by this change.

Q. Will the integration between the NDG Portal and D2L LMS continue to function?
A. Yes, the existing integration will continue to function normally until the August 15, 2025 deadline.
